Christmas

Christmas was good, I'm glad it's over.

My dad bought for me Finale Print Music. I've been doing a lot of jazz lead sheets by hand, and even though it's fun, I don't have wonderful manuscript, so this is going to help.

Back when I was in college I was playing with this wacky arrangement of 'Mary Had a Little Lamb'. I didn't ever have time to really work on it, but it's basically the straight melody and rhythm(maybe that represents Mary) with this bass line that complements the melody rhythmically, but harmonically it's just all over the place with tritone and other kind of weird voice leading and material.

It kind of sounds like an arrangement for a possessed rocking chair that has one of those music boxes on the leg.

Last night, as I was re-acclamating myself with Finale, I started entering this bizarre piece and listening to it again. I called up my dad about 10:30pm to play what I had entered. Before he got off the phone he said, 'be sure and write some pretty music'.
